Did you know your lettuce travels thousands of miles?
Most leafy greens sold in UK supermarkets travel an extraordinary distance before reaching your plate 🍽️
Many are grown in southern Europe or even further afield, harvested days earlier, transported across countries, stored in warehouses and finally delivered to supermarket shelves.
By the time they reach your kitchen, they may already be a week old. That journey doesn’t just affect freshness. It can also impact flavour, texture and nutritional quality.
Leafy greens are at their best shortly after harvest. The longer they travel and sit in storage, the more their natural freshness begins to fade.

A different way to grow...
At Crate to Plate, we grow our greens right here in London using hydroponic farming.
Hydroponics means plants grow without soil, with their roots nourished by carefully balanced water and nutrients in a controlled environment. This allows us to give each crop exactly what it needs to thrive while using far less land and water than traditional farming.
More importantly, it means we can deliver our leafy greens, herbs, microgreens and mushrooms to our customers within 24 hours of harvest! 🤩
✈️ No cross-country transport.
⏰ No long storage periods.
🏙️ Just incredibly fresh produce grown in the heart of the city.

Fresh from farm to kitchen...
Many of the greens we grow are also used just moments later in our production kitchen, where our development chef, Val, turns them into our range of sauces and dressings!
The same freshness that goes into our salads goes straight into every bottle 🌱
If you're in London and haven't tried our greens yet, now’s the perfect time!
