Working to improve our food system

Crate to Plate was founded with a simple mission: to bring sustainable, locally grown food to UK communities. Since launching our first indoor vertical farms in London in 2020, we’ve been growing fresh lettuces, leafy greens, herbs and microgreens using hydroponic technology, providing the highest quality, most nutritious produce all year round.

Today, our range has expanded to include mushrooms, as well as sauces and dressings made using the ingredients we grow, allowing us to deliver exceptional freshness, flavour and transparency from farm to fork.

We believe that the UK must produce more of its own food. We do not need to be reliant on imports, and we do not need to buy produce that has been grown thousands of miles away, to be consumed several days after harvest.

By combining technology, sustainability and local production, we’re helping build a food system that is more resilient, more transparent, and better for both people and the planet.

We don't see vertical farming as a replacement for traditional agriculture. Instead, it works alongside it, helping create a more secure, sustainable and local food future.

The Solution

How can we help solve it?

Fresh, locally-grown produce, with consistent quality and year-round harvests

Grown in a clean and contaminant-free environment, with zero use of pesticides and herbicides

Improved environmental sustainability – we use up to 95% less water than traditional farming

Alleviates issue of nutrient depletion on over-farmed soil and reduced reliance on imported food

Produce reaches the consumer less than 24 hours after harvest (vs. up to 10-12 days with traditional farming)

Food consumed shortly after harvest ensures higher nutrient density and reduced wastage

Growing the best quality, most delicious varieties

One of the nicest benefits of growing the way we do is that we're able to grow produce that you may not typically find elsewhere.

By growing indoors, in a controlled environnment, we aren't at the mercy of the elements. This allows us to grow delicious varieties of produce that may not be viable using traditional agricultural methods.
